George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin this year. Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria, and was selected for a three-person U.N. commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. So tonight, her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were on a roll tonight. You know who wasn’t?

Amal Alamuddin.

Fashion-wise, anyway.

For someone who pulled out showstopper after showstopper preceding her nuptials in Venice, the dress was so yawn-worthy. It would have even been fine if it weren’t for those god awful white gloves. WTF?

Gloves can be really dramatic, but they can be difficult to execute. And she probably could’ve pulled them off had she worn a different gown.

Part of me thinks she was playing it down because this was her husband’s night. Clooney won the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. I would much rather believe this theory than accept that such a stylish woman just wore a bad outfit.

Attached is Clooney’s excellent acceptance speech.
