And oh, it must have taken hours in hair and makeup to transform her into a schlubby figure skater. Read: FIGURE SKATER. It’s not like Margot Robbie’s playing the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and yet she’s wearing more prosthetics than f-cking Voldemort.

Look, I like Robbie and don’t doubt that she can act. But, doesn’t this “transformation” seem a little unnecessary and what’s more, Oscar-baity?
The Academy loves it when beautiful actresses “go ugly” for a role. Remember Charlize Theron in Monster? Coincidentally, Theron complained to GQ that “pretty people” get turned away first for “meaty roles.” I don’t know what planet Theron is living on, because in Hollywood, that’s always the exception and never the rule.
I’m already cringing thinking about how many questions Robbie will get about her “transformation”, and what it was like to be “ugly” for 12 hours a day.
We can get mad all we want at Robbie, but part of the blame goes to casting directors and producers who let this happen. The same people who decide that a 34-year-old single mom should be played by a 20-something Jennifer Lawrence and that Tilda Swinton can play a Tibetan wizard.
